Iron Age Designs

For access-box applications, Iron Age Designs provides decorative solid and utility covers sized to fit selected standard valve-box, access, and manhole hardware rather than maintaining a separate product line named Access Boxes. Available cover families include multiple round and rectangular patterns, with compatibility extending across common frame and box systems as well as custom frames. Cast-metal covers can incorporate utility labels, custom graphics, civic identifiers, or project-specific patterns where access points occur in prominent paving. Iron Age Designs' broader material palette includes grey and ductile iron, bronze, and aluminum for conditions requiring different combinations of load capacity, corrosion resistance, weight, and appearance. For landscape architects, the practical value is the ability to treat necessary access hardware as part of the paving and site-detail composition while retaining serviceability.

ABOUT LANDSCAPE ACCESS BOXES

Landscape access boxes, also known as underground utility access boxes, are small, typically rectangular-shaped enclosures that are used to provide access to underground utility systems such as electrical, water, and gas lines. They are typically installed just below the surface of the ground and are used to house valves, meters, and other control devices that are associated with these systems.

Access boxes are usually made of durable materials such as concrete, steel, or plastic, and they are designed to be weather-resistant and vandal-resistant. They are typically located in areas where they can be easily accessed by maintenance personnel, such as sidewalks, parks, and other public spaces.

Access boxes can also be used to store other equipment such as irrigation controllers, backflow preventers, and other landscape-related equipment. They are typically designed with a removable or hinged lid, which allows for easy access to the equipment inside.

When installing access boxes, it's important to consider factors such as location, size, and materials to ensure that they are both accessible and unobtrusive. It's also important to consider the depth of the excavation and the need for any additional support, such as bracing or backfilling, to ensure that the access box remains stable over time.

Overall, landscape access boxes are an important component of outdoor spaces as they provide easy access to underground utility systems and other landscape-related equipment, while also remaining unobtrusive and safe for public use.
